And just like that the summer is nearly over! The days are getting shorter, the nights are getting chiller and you can already start to feel the chiller touch of Autumn. Not only is summer nearly over, but so are the school holidays. Six weeks of jam packed activities, lots of places visited as well as a camping trip done. I don’t know about you, but I am ready for the kids to go back to school. Everyone needs a bit of routine back, and I need some time to myself in the evenings!
So lets talk about Instagram and my top 5 most liked pictures. Once again this month Instagram and I have not been the best of friends. My engagement has still been low, around 5%, and looking at my stats I have only gained 12 new followers. In fact, over the last day it looks like I have lost 6 followers. I have no idea what’s going on, and I don’t know what’s working, but I will perserver. I love taking photos and I love sharing them with a filter or two. So even if Instagram doesn’t want to show my photos I will still share them. Any tips though would be greatly received. How have you been growing your Instagram since they changed the algorithm?
Anyway, onto this months top 5 pictures:
It appears that my top pictures all seem to have got consistent likes, which is a good thing. So to start, we have two pictures in fifth place. The first is of a bug hotel that we found in the garden at Torre Abbey. It was right next to a mud kitchen that the girls loved playing in.
Anyone else’s kids fascinated by mud kitchens? The 9 & 6 year old can hunt them out in any garden & will spend ages making all sorts of concoctions. Not complaining though, as it does give me a chance to faff around with my camera, like I did here in the gardens at @torreabbey at the weekend. I signed up to the recent @makelight family storytelling workshop to get tips on how to improve my photos & I am loving learning all I can about taking better family photos & preserving memories #makelightfamily
And the second picture in fifth place is of the girls looking out to sea at Charmouth. This was at the end of our fab holiday at Freshwater Beach Holiday Park in Dorset.
I love this picture of the girls. It was taken on our last day of our camping trip in #Dorset We stopped off at Charmouth for a bit of fossil hunting on our way home. We do love it here, the girls really enjoy the exploring. I have finally got our holiday post up on the blog (link in the bio). I would suggest you grab a cuppa before you sit down & read this one, I have covered a lot!
In fourth place we also have two photos. The first one is of little one looking around the gardens at Knightshayes, a National Trust property just outside of Tiverton in Devon
Yesterday we visited the gorgeous National Trust property Knighthayes Court took part in the many mazes they had laid out over the summer. There was something for everyone & the adults got very competitive trying to figure out some of the harder ones! My Top 5 Instagram pics for July post is now up on the blog (link in the bio). I have a bit of a rant about how I feel about Instagram at the moment & why I’ll be taking a break. What are your thoughts on how things are going?
The second photo in our joint fourth place is again of little one, but this time playing with hula hoops in the gardens of Torre Abbey. What I loved about this was that these were just left on the grass and the kids just picked them up and started playing with them. Sometimes it’s just the simplest things which are the best.
Moving onto third place we have a three way tie. The first picture is of my eldest wandering around the amazing Palm House at Torre Abbey. This house is a great place to get hands on. They have plants that move when you touch them as well as plants that eat things!
The next picture in third place is again from Torre Abbey gardens. This one is of both the girls playing around the fountain, which can be found through a secret arch of willow. It felt like we were entering the Secret Garden.
The last picture in third place was only taken a few days ago, when we had all that fab summer weather. Over the bank holiday we spent a lot of time down at the beach at our hut and on the Sunday afternoon the sun was reflecting so brightly off the sand.
In second place is a picture of little one just washing up. Its an everyday one, we aren’t doing anything special. Mind you, she was earning herself a marble, which was part of our Summer Marble challenge.
So this is what marbles does to my children, I have a willing volunteer for a lot of things around the house! Yesterday little one got herself ready when asked, got herself changed after swimming, laid the table & helped with the washing up. To say the marble reward jar has had an impact on the girls is an understatement. 1 and a bit weeks down, 5 to go!! #mylittlehelper #marblerewardjar
And finally to the picture in first place. I love this one. It was taken on the night of my birthday after we had been out to dinner at a lovely restaurant called Pier Point which is right on the seafront in Torquay. After our meal we walked along the front and the girls went on a ride of this vintage carousel.
So there you go, my August top 5 (well 9) photos. Which one is your favourite? And if you are not already following me on Instagram, it would be lovely to see you.
