Welcome to Meet the Working Mum Interview. Today we meet Maxine Laceby. Maxine runs her own business, Absolute Collagen and she is also blogging over at Maxine Owns It.
If you have missed any of the previous interviews, or if you are new to this series, check out all the other Meet the Working Mum’s.
An intro and a little bit about you, your family and where you live.
My name is Maxine Laceby, I live in Wolverhampton with my 2 girls, Darcy 20, Margot 17 and Rosie our lurcher.
What do you do for a job? Is it what you have always wanted to do?
I am the founder & director of Absolute Collagen, a 10ml beauty supplement. I started in my kitchen 2 years a go boiling vats of chicken feet & pigs trotters in order to extract the collagen….fast forward 2 years, I now buy in hydrolysed marine collagen and provide women with their daily dose of beauty & the guys with their daily skincare ritual.
What was your motivation to return to work?
I didn’t really have one it just happened organically
How many hours do you work a week?
Now there’s a question, if I take today, I started at my desk at 7.35 am, it is now 7.03 pm and I’ve got another hour or so. Is that an average day for me? Yes it is, so my weekly hours are around 65 hours. Complaint? Hell no 🙂
Do you have to travel far from where you live to where you work?
About 12 feet.
If you use public transport what do you do to pass the time on your commute?
I either see it as time to catch up on reading emails, blogs etc or I take time to do nothing and be present, especially on the train I see it as me time.
What do you do for childcare? Does this work for you?
Funny, I was having this convo with my eldest daughter today, there is no way I could have or would have wanted to do this whilst my children were young. I was a stay at home mum and felt lucky and honoured to be so, there is no way I could do this and attend to my children needS. I take my hat off to any women who manages to do so.
What does your morning routine look like? What do you do to get you all out of the house on time?
Haha, I never get out of the house on time. I was diagnosed with ADHD at uni, which is hilarious as explains so much. I cant walk across an empty room without being distracted
What do you like about being a working mum?
Showing my girls that anything is possible all you have to do is believe in yourself and make it happen.
What don’t you like about being a working mum?
Honestly? Nothing.
What would you change? Hours you work, commute you have to make etc.
I’d have a PA, terribly spoilt and extravagant but I’d get so much more done. Theres never enough hours in the day.
What three tips would you pass onto a mum about to start back at work?
You are going to make mistakes, its how we learn. It’s ok to put your children before your job, its instinct. Don’t forget to laugh at yourself.
For fun show us a picture of your work handbag.
My bag is Longchamp and it contains: womens collagen, mens collagen, 3 pairs of glasses, 3 identical lipsticks, 2 sets of car keys for the same car and the most unworkable thing in my bag is a Vivienne Westwood diamond earring cuff, some would say too workable 🙂
Thank you so much for taking part in the Meet the Working Mum interview series Maxine. I can see Absolute Collagen has truly been a labour of love. It’s great to see something for the older women that will truly make them feel good about themselves.
