Lots of lists = one large blackboard!

I always have a list on the go! Whether it’s for the food shopping, that hundred and one things I need to do to for the girls and their social lives or those family birthday’s which are like busses and come along in threes.

You may remember I did a number of posts about how I tidied up my breakfast bar as it was a dumping ground. If you didn’t read them you can find them here, here and here. One thing I found while clearing everything up was that I had either a tatty book or a spare piece of paper with my to do list on.

Even with all this technology around I still feel better when I write things down. For me I think it’s just the action of actually writing the words,it seems to help me remember things better.

So after I could actually see the top of my breakfast bar again I didn’t want to clutter it up with random pieces of paper. That’s when I had an idea (which I get a lot of and the husband groans, rolls his eyes, takes a deep breath and then asks what is it).

We get one of these book clubs at work. You know the ones I mean – there is always a copy of the latest baking book and adult colouring book along with things for the kids and sometimes some random gadget. Well this time I spotted these vinyl stick on blackboard sheets.

We have this space in our kitchen, at the end of the cabinets by the back door, which was a waste of space. We just used it to stick up the girls artwork and reward charts.

I purchased two packs of the vinyl stickers and came skipping home with my grand plan in my head. These vinyl stickers can be found on Amazon, click here to see them.

After measuring it out I cut the sheets in half and this covered pretty much the whole side of the cabinet.

I unfortunately haven’t got any pictures of me putting the stickers up as I did this little project before I started the blog and didn’t think about taking any. The stickers were really easy to put up, peel off the back and stick down using a hard piece of cardboard or credit/store card to make sure there were no bubbles.

The finished blackboard, so happy with it.

It worked out perfectly, and I must write on it everyday. Having all my lists in one place makes me so happy  and the girls like to tick off their reward charts too. The bottom section has also been really useful for the girls with their writing. My 7 year old leaves messages on it for us and our 4 year old likes to practice writing her name.

To start with we used the chalks that came with the board but we have just purchased these chalk board pens. So far they have been really easy to use and wipe off. You can get them here.

If you are thinking about doing something similar I would highly recommend it! If you do give it a go I would love to hear about it and see any pictures.

Lets get organised

Jo

Great idea, my kids love a chalkboard but it has caused problems for us! Last October we stayed at Centerparcs where there are chalk boards in every chalet and my kids had a blast drawing all over them. Then we got home and they didn’t realise that chalkboards and walls were completely separate, cue the most amount of “art work” on my beautiful white walls!! I need a full house of chalk boards!! #binkylinky

Oh no., We love those Centre Parcs blackboards too, they were a bit of inspiration for this one. Love your idea of a house full of blackboards though, my list addiction would go into overdrive! X

Totally genius, we’re painting a chalkboard wall in my little boy’s room soon but never though of putting one somewhere else in the house, how handy. The markers sound like a great idea as chalk drives me mad and always snaps! Thanks for linking up to #MarvMondays. Kaye xo

We have had a wall like this for years (long before being parents in fact) in our kitchen and we love it! Such a good way of quickly jotting something down to remember. Gotta love a chalkboard with a list or two!
