Welcome to my first blog post, eek! I spent ages thinking about what to do and just thought sod it, jump right in!
As a mum of two very girly girls this organisation idea was very much needed!
The girls hair has been many lengths in their short little life’s. To help make them look half decent when they leave the house, clips and bands have been their friend.
I used to have an old wash bag to store hair bands, clips and anything else hair related. Except it started to take ages to find anything. Especially that ‘special’ one that was always requested and could never been found. After seeing a post on pinterest where someone used jars to store bands in I thought let’s give it a go.
I like to reuse stuff from around the house but I didn’t have anything for this job. So during one of our summer camping trips I came across this cute little shop that had these lovely jars.
They were perfect! When we got home I set about sorting out the girls hair accessories. The first thing I did was arrange the hair bands into types/sizes and then worked out what jars to use for what type. For example all School hair accessories went into one jar. This meant the girls can just grab the school jar and pick out what they wanted for that day.
The next challenge was the hair clips. I found a piece of ribbon, which was abandoned at the bottom of the fancy dress box and again sorted them. This time I sorted by colour, and then clipped them onto the ribbon. The picture above shows the jars full with the hair bands and the ribbon full of clips (sorry about the blurry image, I need to work on my photo skills!!).
Next thing I needed to do was try to find a way of storing it all together. I thought about displaying them on a shelf, or on the dresser in the girls bedrooms, but I really wanted to keep everything together. That’s when I remembered I had an old basket and the jars fitted in perfectly. Having the basket also meant that I could store hair brushes and combs in the same place and the handle on the side was a great way to hold the headbands.
This little project took me not even half an hour to do. The girls know that when they want their hair done that this basket holds everything they need. They pick out the jar they want, grab the clip ribbon and the hairbrush and bring to me to get the hair done. Even putting the hair bands away at the end of the day has been a lot easier too, and I give anything for an easy life!
Thank you for reading my first ever post. I hope you found it useful and I would love to hear how you store your girls hair accessories.
